Finnish Health Agency Urges Age Restriction on Energy Drink Sales

(MENAFN) Finland’s health authority has recommended prohibiting the sale of energy drinks to anyone under the age of 18, according to reports.

The recommendation follows findings showing that nearly 70% of people between the ages of 12 and 20 consume energy drinks at least from time to time.

Health officials said many young consumers report feeling reliant on the beverages, while others say they use them to combat fatigue and boost alertness.

“High consumption, especially in the evening, can have the opposite effect -- it can worsen sleep and increase tiredness,” said research director Sari Niinisto in a news release.

The institute also raised concerns about dietary habits among teenagers and young adults, noting that some are replacing regular meals, including breakfast and school lunches, with energy drinks. Officials warned that such behavior may negatively affect energy levels, focus and overall well-being.
